Description
Second up for today's listings of the 3 different vintage Millers Falls spiral ratchet screwdrivers is this vintage Millers Falls, Made in USA, No. 61A spiral ratchet screwdriver. This has the single wooden handle, and the deluxe spring-loaded chuck with the flare at the bottom of the collar to make pushing down to release and change the bit easier. The signature Millers Falls red varnish on the wooden handle has taken a beating over the years (4th and 5th pictures), but if you were to strip it (which I am not suggesting by any means), the wood itself is in reasonably decent condition. The handle is solidly attached to the drive mechanism, with no looseness. There is plating wear, that you can see in the 2nd, 3rd and 8th pictures. The large knurled collar (5th picture at right) rotates to allow for clockwise and counterclockwise driving, or to lock the shaft from rotating, which can be done with the shaft in the handle or extended. The narrower knurled collar right under the chuck locks the shaft in the down (in the tool) position. Now please note that this is the no-spring type of driver - you have to supply the power on the return stroke. All of the mechanicals work fine. The bit in the chuck is in okay condition - the tip has wear, but it has not been reground or messed with. The tool takes the standard 9/32" diameter bits (last 2 pictures). Weighs just over 1 pound, 1 ounce.
I am listing the tools separately, but I am not requiring immediate payment with the Buy-It-Now, so if anyone wants more than one, I will be able to figure out shipping and invoice accordingly.
