Heavy Duty Tinned Copper Tabbing WireSick of thin tabbing wire that crumples like hair in your hand?
Complete your project with heavy duty, thick, pure copper wire.
Useful for solar panel assembly, soldering battery packs, or any application where a thin flat wire that can carry very high amperage without heating up is needed.
We have the wire in four versatile sizes:
3mm wide * 0.2mm thick: perfect for connecting individual solar cells to each other but can carry much larger currents for small battery packs, etc. Recommended current up to 10 amps.
6mm wide * 0.25mm thick: wide wire perfect for connecting rows of cells in parallel, or for moderate amperage battery packs. Great alternative to nickel tabbing wire for 18650's, etc, when you want to solder instead of spot weld for zero resistance. Recommended current up to 20 amps.
6mm wide * 0.35mm thick: a great improvement in thickness compared to the 0.25mm strip, much stiffer and suitable for rugged applications. Recommended loads up to 40 amps.
6mm wide * 0.4mm thick: very thick and stiff wire with almost double the copper content of the 0.25mm wire. Suitable for heavy loads up to 50 amps.
8mm wide * 0.15mm thick: wide strip that is very flexible, suitable for tight turns or parts that need to flex. Suitable for up to 30 amps.
8mm wide * 0.4mm thick: our thickest strip yet, suitable for up to 80 amps.
Remember, the maximum appropriate amperage depends on the length of strip, and maximum allowable temperature rise. You can never go wrong using a thicker wire, but over-doing it is also un-economical and makes your application heavier than necessary. If you need advice or suggestions, you are always welcome to message us. Sometimes, a certain size simple 'fits' better for your application - for example if you're making battery packs, the 8mm strip is a great substitute to nickel strip as it fits great, despite it definitely being overkill where amps are concerned.
Tinned copper makes soldering easy and safe. 60/40 Solar solder melts at low temperatures to prevent damage to cells. Wash your hands after use and don't solder in the kitchen.
