Standard Flooded Technology for Car and Truck Batteries
The standard flooded battery is the most common type of auto battery. It provides power to reliably start your vehicle and provide power for standard vehicle electrical accessory loads.
A standard flooded battery is designed to supply power to the starter and ignition system to start the engine. It also supplies extra power when the vehicle’s electrical load exceeds the supply from the charging system. It provides power to electrical systems such as the clock and computer systems when the vehicle isn’t running. And it evens out voltage spikes and prevents damage to other parts of the electrical system. In a standard vehicle, the Starting, Lighting, Ignition (SLI) battery is kept at a high state of charge (SOC), so it doesn’t require deep-cycling capabilities. Most batteries today are standard flooded batteries.
Standard Flooded Battery Applications
Standard flooded batteries are ideal for vehicle applications with normal electrical demands.
Standard Flooded Battery Construction
12-volt lead-acid batteries are made up of six cells. Within each cell,
are stacked in an alternating fashion, separated by a thin sheet of microporous plastic called a separator. The stacked plates are immersed in an electrolyte solution, or battery acid, which surrounds the separators and the plates, providing a path for electricity to flow.
